The use of clickers in Higher Education – theory and practice

Seminar description:

Electronic Voting Systems (EVS), also called “clickers”, are used more and more widely at universities in the United States and the UK to encourage students’ participation in large classes. They have proven particularly successful in improving students understanding, revealing common misconceptions and facilitating students’ discussions. Slowly clickers are also being introduced in South Africa’s institutions of higher learning.  This seminar will  give an overview of current research in the field of clickers and the facilitator’s experiences in using and supporting clickers at the University of Edinburgh and CPUT.

    Day-to-day human interaction with teachers and professors, it may not have fit neatly into some Fordist time management efficiency schemes of the advocates of these “clickers”, but it is that interaction which actually educates and enriches the lives of students.
